Retired radio DJ, Rex Page, always dreamed of being a Western movie cowboy -- After suffering a back injury, Rex finds himself recovering at Rancho Park nursing home, a facility held in the villainous grip of local businessman Mr. Walker and his evil henchman, Dr. Dominguez. At first, Rex is helpless in this lawless world, but when the Latino staff realize that as a DJ, he once met their icon, Vicente Fernández, Rex becomes the local celebrity. And like the cowboy of his dreams, Rex discovers the love and respect of his family and the staff when he faces down the tyrannical owners of Rancho Park in this homage to the Spaghetti Westerns of yore. In many movies Ernest Borgnine was a really likable actor and even though I never really looked for him in movies, I always noticed him immediately. Super Fuzz and The Dirty Dozen speak volumes for that. I have to say that when it comes to him, this movie was a really nice last performance. He plays a bit crazy old guy, who reminisces about his past and it all mingles mostly with his western movies. It is not too funny or dramatic but it has that sort of human feeling that I like.
