Petr Jarchovský

A graduate of FAMU, the Prague film school, where he's been working as a lecturer since 1992, Petr Jarchovský quickly proved himself as the most commercially successful Czech writer, post Velvet Revolution. Films based upon his scripts have repeatedly reached up to 1,000,000 admissions in the Czech Republic alone.

In a three-year time span two of the films he wrote were nominated for Academy Awards in the Best Foreign-Language Picture category („Divided We Fall" and „Želary"). The film „Divided We Fall" was also the first Czech film screened at the Sundance Film Festival. The film „Up And Down" was successfully presented at the Toronto Film Festival as well as in Telluride. Many of the films he's written have been distributed throughout Europe and four have found distribution in the United States. Two books of his screenplays have been published in the Czech Republic.
