SEAN ANDERS grew up in a small town outside of Madison, Wisconsin. He attended DeForest High School, where he distinguished himself by being a wiseass and barely graduating. He did not attend college, choosing instead to start a band and become a rock star – a decision that proved that sometimes dreams really can't come true.Anders later moved to Tempe, Arizona and worked as a graphic designer and web designer, all the while dreaming of making an independent film. When the technology finally became affordable, Anders started on his first feature – a silly, no-budget mockumentary titled NBT. The movie took two years to complete and launched his partnership with John Morris (Executive Producer), a fellow musician Anders had met in the Arizona band scene. NBT played a few small festivals, won a few small awards, and received a modest theatrical and video release that ultimately led to Anders and Morris landing fancy Hollywood agents.
After a year of going to meetings and getting nowhere, Anders and Morris wrote She's Out of My League. The spec script was sold to Dreamworks, made the Black List (a list of top unproduced scripts) and was ultimately produced by DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures. Anders and Morris then went to work on their first television pilot, an original concept created for Fox called "Playing Chicken." During the post process on the pilot, Anders was offered the chance to direct the teen comedy Sex Drive for Summit Pictures. Anders and Morris wrote the script, which was greenlit from a first draft. Sex Drive was finished a year later and has gone on to become a cult favorite on cable and DVD. Sex Drive also opened several new doors and Anders and Morris soon had two more produced scripts followed – the R-rated hit Hot Tub Time Machine and the Jim Carrey family comedy Mr. Popper's Penguins, which has gone on to gross $175 million in worldwide box office.
