Anja Kofmel was born in Switzerland in 1982. She studied animation at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). Her diploma project in 2009 was Chrigi, an award-winning short film that deals with the brutal murder of her cousin Chris. Between 2015 and 2017, she spent most of her time in Croatia and Germany, where, as the artistic director of the animation documentary Chris the Swiss, she led an international team of animators investigating the murder of her cousin.
