The director, screenwriter and producer, Wang Chao graduated from Beijing film Academy. His first feature film, Anyangde guer (The Orphan of Anyang, 2001), was presented at the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes and won the FIPRESCI Prize at Chicago Festival. With Ri ri ye ye (Days and Nights, 2004) he bagged three awards at the Festival des 3 continents in Nantes, including Best Film, and in 2006 Jiang cheng xia ri (Luxury Car) won Best Film in Un Certain Regard at the Festival de Cannes. Next came Memory of Love (2009) and Tian guo (The Celestial Kingdom, 2012). In 2014 returned to Un Certain Regard in Cannes with Huan xiang qu (Fantasia). Xun zhao Luo Ma (Looking for Rohmer, 2015) and Fu zi qing (River’s Edge, 2017) complete his filmography.
