Abel Ferrara

ABEL FERRARA (19.7.1951, New York USA). Ferrara started making amateur films on Super 8 in his teens before making his debut with violent exploitation films such as Driller Killer (1979) and MS.45. Good reviews for the latter helped create his cult reputation. His filmography includes King of New York (1990), Bad Lieutenant (1992), The Funeral (1996), New Rose Hotel (1998), Mary (2005), Go Go Tales (2007), Chelsea on the Rocks (2008, doc), 4:44 Last Day on Earth (2011) Welcome to New York (2014) etc. Ferrara is an acknowledged master of modern cinema, a participant in numerous film forums, winner of many awards including a Leopard of Honor which he received in 2011 at the Locarno IFF.
