Born in Azerbaijan in 1963, Mirbala Salimli started his career in the theater: In total, he already staged 30 plays and was rewarded for his work with 3 prizes – for example with the 'Gold Dervish', the National Theater Award of Azerbaijan. Until 1985, Salimli took classes in theater at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. Later he added theater directing, which he studied at the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute in Russia, to his first study. During the past decade, Salimli pursued the directing of movies as well; initially concentrating on documentary features. "Qirmizi Bagh" (2016) is his first feature film.
