Born in New York City, she began acting in movies as she entered her teenage years. After making her screen debut in Nicholas Hytner's The Object of My Affection, she starred opposite Deborah Kara Unger in Bette Gordon's Luminous Motion.

Ms. De La Huerta has since made screen appearances in the occasional major-studio film, such as Adam Shankman's A Walk to Remember, with Shane West and Mandy Moore; and a variety of independent features.
