Necrotongue

One of the few French films that I've come to love. Unlike the depressing Gabin films and goofy de Funès films, this one’s hilarious and entertaining. Jean Reno is at his best here and it's a joy to watch him move like a fish in water in a plot that is racing forward at a breakneck speed.

An excellent pitch-black comedy. I’m not much of a French cinema lover, but I do have a few favorites and Delicatessen has been taking the lead for quite a while. A comedy that is black to the point of cynicism and could be used as the definition of wacky.

A star for the special effects and the cast, the rest is drowned in bathos and patriotic clichés.

A guarantee of quality. Excellent script, excellent Svěrák in the lead role, but the best thing in the film is definitely Daniela Kolářová. It's amazing to watch her character nip every new idea of the protagonist in the bud, crush it and stomp it to the ground without even trying. I was royally entertained alike I am with every Svěrák comedy. It blows my mind how Zdeněk Svěrák can keep up such a high quality of writing for so long. 30 years after the premiere of Secluded, Near Woods, he has lost none of his genius.

Svěrák and Smoljak are a guarantee of a real treat. I'm definitely not a fan of Luděk Sobota but it wouldn't have been the same without him even with such an awesome script. A lifetime loser tries to improve his situation by following the advice of a computer-generated horoscope. Brilliant! Especially when he's peening a rivet. If somebody wrote down all the memorable lines from Svěrák's and Smoljak's films, it would make quite a thick volume and Jáchym would be a significant contribution. One of the gems of Czech comedy.

Another film by Smoljak & Svěrák and I’m thrilled again. The class reunion, the desperate attempt to overtake the bus, one great scene after another. I can watch films by these two over and over again without getting tired of them. Many of the film’s lines have become part of Czech culture. Simply amazing!

Another treat by Smoljak & Svěrák showing their comedic genius and bringing a whirlwind of great ideas and memorable lines. Ball Lightning, like the title suggests, just keeps rolling uncontrollably, making everybody around burst out laughing. I do believe that there are people who don’t like the film, which doesn't mean I understand that. :)

An excellent film about (at times almost terrifying) rivalry back in the day when Formula 1 was still the queen of motorsport and not what’s left of it today. The film is crafted to perfection. Most importantly, it is believable. It completely drew me into the atmosphere of the time. Although I knew how it would end, I was entertained all the way through and will gladly watch it a couple more times.

I’m giving one star for the ship itself, otherwise, it’s a mockery of all those who died in the tragedy. I can only imagine Cameron thinking: "Lots of dead people. Awesome! Let’s just throw in some famous actors, a love story, and epic music, and we'll make a killing." Hooray! Mission accomplished.

It's interesting how some directors make money out of historical events/tragedies. First, it was Titanic, now Pearl Harbor. What's next? A romantic drama set in Auschwitz?
