Necrotongue

Definitely my favorite Czech TV series from the socialist era. When I was watching it for the first time, The Visitors seemed like a gem when compared to the rest of the Czech TV production of the time, as if from a different world. I still like the show. The premise and overall execution are great.

I made it to the end, which I consider a huge success. This is only watchable if you don't use logic, since the writers somehow forgot about it in the plot. I’m giving one star for the main idea with the Ark and sending 100 delinquents instead of guinea pigs or lab rats. Despite my internal suffering, I intend to watch the second season because I'm curious to see if Lincoln and Octavia will have a baby and if so, what car brand name it will have.

Compared to Band of Brothers, this is a disappointment. I appreciate the historical accuracy, but the problem is the writing which didn't work for me this time. The characters are mere sketches, while in Band of Brothers they were fully fleshed out. This is also true of my overall impression of The Pacific. It’s just half-baked, which is a shame. I think the Pacific War is a perfect setting for filmmakers. Unlike in Europe, they don't need to show the movements of armies counting hundreds of thousands. A small group of soldiers is enough, but they have to be able to make the most of it. I’m afraid it failed to happen in this series.

Probably the best war series or film I've ever seen. Except for minor details, it has absolutely realistic combat scenes, weaponry and equipment, a well-written script, and well-cast characters. I would never have expected to see anything like this made by the Americans. They never seem to bother with historical accuracy of combat equipment. Those who've seen Battle of the Bulge know what I'm talking about. Their strategy is the following: a tank’s a tank, and as long as it has tracks, who can tell the difference? This series shows that with a little effort they can achieve greatness. Plus, the show doesn’t just focus on combat action, it also portrays the characters very well, which makes it even better and more interesting. The only disappointment came when the final episode was over.

A spy series set in the cold war – right up my alley. Plus, it's very well-made and well-cast. I never claimed to be a pure soul or a defender of the light side, so I immediately took a liking to both protagonists. I found even Arkady more likable than Agent Frank Gaad most of the time. I guess it’s because the Soviets were explicitly evil, while the American fighters for democracy always played clean, with exceptions that occurred once, twice at most... But seriously, I think it was a win for the series that Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys hit it off in real life, the chemistry between them was amazing and contributed to a great overall atmosphere. At first, I found the character of Stan Beeman irritating, but Noah Emmerich gradually won me over and Season 6 wouldn’t have been half as good without him. Since I'm praising individual characters, I can't forget Alison Wright as Martha Hanson who was really excellent. Finally, a shout-out to the writers who maintained a high level of storytelling throughout the seventy-five episodes. I had a great time.

Season 3 started off (and continued) very awkwardly, so I was pretty disappointed. There was a significant change for the better in Episode 6, which lasted until the end of the season. For me, the most striking episode was the eighth, which featured the attack on Paris and the best action of the series so far. I really enjoyed the character of Egbert, King of Wessex. Some episodes would have been rather bland without his scheming and manipulations.

I like Clive Barker’s books, but the film doesn't even feel like it was based on his work. Absolutely pathetic screenplay, not even worth filming. It’s a shame because with someone capable in charge, Barker’s books can be turned into something as good as Hellraiser.

I don’t get it. Why? In the excellent first part of the film, the filmmakers take us into a masterfully crafted post-catastrophic world, which together with the script works really well. I couldn't tear myself away from the screen. The second part seemed like it was made by a completely different team of people and only the actors were left from the original set-up. The whole film felt completely disjointed. The second religious-sentimental part ruined my experience of the first part.

My favorite director Paul Verhoeven and the cast – 2 stars. The rest of the stars went to hell, just like the writing.

Although I hate remakes with a passion, Oscar is an exception. It's because I dislike French cinema and Funès even more than that. The film is literally packed with great actors and matching performances. I was most surprised by Sly, who clearly shows that there is more to him than just a muscleman/boxer. I've seen the film several times now and it totally blows me away every time, not only with its excellent plot, but especially the performances. For me personally, this is a great comedy. What gets me the most is that Tim Curry is constantly smiling like Pennywise...
