RoboCop (1987)

englanti RoboCop is a movie for fans of the action genre and a bloody spectacle without much appeal for other viewers. Craftsmanship-wise, it is decently executed, which is expected from Paul Verhoeven, who is experienced and skilled. In some moments, it has a slightly cheesy tone, but again, that is not surprising from Verhoeven. Overall impression: 40%. A film that draws on nostalgia and a teenage audience's perspective.

Days of Our Lives (1965) (sarja) BOO!

englanti It is certainly not the flagship of soap operas, but in a way, it's fascinating how long the series has managed to stay on the air. It has nothing to do with quality, rather it's an interesting subject for sociological research... My impression is zero.

Les Liaisons dangereuses (2003) (sarja)

englanti It is a myth that the novel "Dangerous Liaisons" cannot be set in the modern era, and at least Roger Vadim succeeded in doing so. However, the new television version is stretched out and not believable. They needed to adapt the script and innovate the concept compared to the book. Overall impression: 25%, not even Catherine Deneuve (although an excellent actress) could save the series, as she no longer suited her role due to her age...

Sólo pro mou ženu (1990) (TV elokuva)

englanti An average television play about how a married couple tries to cope with marital stereotypes and aging. Thanks to the cast, it's a watchable affair, albeit only once. Overall impression: 50%.

¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto! (1984)

englanti A funny comedy about a woman whose family didn't turn out well and she is faced with one issue after another. Pedro Almodóvar could have done better, and especially the script could have been refined even more, but in the context of overall film production, it is undoubtedly an above-average film. Overall impression: 75%. The film is worth watching at least for the outstanding Carmen Maura, as it is a magnificent acting concert by Almodóvar's favorite actress.

Conan Barbaari (1982)

englanti Another overrated movie, in which only the music and lavish production are interesting, and it depends on each individual how willing they are to appreciate these two factors. The plot is shallow and the acting performances are poor even in the case of otherwise quality actors. The direction is also not worth mentioning. Conan the Barbarian looks up to the peaks of the genre, such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy or the older Excalibur, from a great distance. If nothing else, it is a positive thing that the role of Conan did not require any acting skills from Schwarzenegger, so in retrospect it is one of his best roles tailor-made for him. Overall impression: 40%.

Predator - saalistaja (1987)

englanti A significantly overrated film that capitalizes on nostalgia and the age of reviewers. It does not come close to the genre's peak by any means. It is literally an embodiment of genre clichés and besides the action, it offers only the exoticism of the Central American jungle. A simple story, characters that don't need to act due to script requirements as long as they look fierce and shoot wildly around them. Lots of stupidity - one of the mercenaries is holding a machine gun in his hand that is mounted on the undercarriage of planes and weighs so much that if I had to drag it through the extreme conditions of the jungle with 100% humidity, I wouldn't wait for a predator and it would end right there for me (probably after five minutes). The film does not have particularly innovative direction, but John McTiernan maintains a certain level - within the genre, there are undoubtedly incomparably worse films. I would give it three stars, even though I'm not a fan of the genre, but the political backstory, when the American commando fights against evil guerrillas, was simply disgusting. The political reality of Central America in the 80s was exactly the opposite - the American government supported any dictatorial scum... Overall impression: 45%.

Hämärän vartija (2006)

englanti What Blade Runner represents in the field of live-action film, A Scanner Darkly represents in the world of animated film. It's one of the few films that can materialize the world of the leading author of the sci-fi genre, Philip K. Dick, and present it in all its complexity. It is the essence of all the motifs and elements that appear in Dick's work. A paranoid atmosphere where the viewer doesn't know for a long time who is who, what are the motives of the story's characters, which side they are on, and what they are fighting for. It is a world of drugs that Dick was intimately familiar with - there is probably no drug that he didn't inject, ingest, or inhale. The motif of a superior who plays their own game - Philip K. Dick was immensely distrustful of authorities of this kind. Similarly, the motif of hallucinations, when the protagonist, at a certain moment, doesn't know what is real and what is imagination. A Scanner Darkly has a captivating atmosphere and interesting visual execution, where live actors were scanned and their animated counterparts are faithful replicas of their prototypes. Overall impression: 90% - as a fan of Philip K. Dick, I simply have to give a high score.

Amatööri (1979)

englanti One of the fundamental works of Polish films of moral unrest, which gave Krzysztof Kieslowski a well-deserved reputation as an exceptional filmmaker. The film is influenced by Kieslowski's documentary roots, but it never bores. It is not a straightforward entertaining spectacle, but rather a socially critical exploration of life in stagnating Poland of the late 70s. At the same time, it is a tribute to all film enthusiasts, those who succumb to the world of cinema and are willing to sacrifice a lot for it. The protagonist, Filip, is so captivated by capturing the world around him on film material that he pays for his passion with the loss of his family background and serious conflicts at both work and in his personal life with his friends. It is a film about censorship and self-censorship, which every filmmaker carried within themselves under the totalitarian regime and which ultimately exists in any system in a modified form. There are doors everywhere that you are forbidden to enter, and their opening comes with a price. The depiction of reality is sometimes painful and dangerous. Kieslowski found an excellent performer in Jerzy Stuhr for the main role, and it was also one of the films that helped Stuhr launch his career. Overall impression: 90%. The film has received a very decent collection of awards at film festivals. It is also interesting in that it features the prominent Polish director Krzysztof Zanussi.

Trouble Every Day (2001) BOO!

englanti Yes, I'm incorrigible. I waste money my whole life and invest it in useless things, but in this case, the loss of about two dollars was particularly painful. I should have given it to beggars at the station. A completely mishandled film with a miserable script that is uninteresting, stupid, and tasteless. Overall impression: 5%.
