Klassentreffen 1.0 - Die unglaubliche Reise der Silberrücken (2018)

englanti Very funny comedy! The story revolves around a group of three old friends who are invited to a school reunion after thirty years. Before the reunion, they want to take a trip to a spa and party like they did when they were young, but with the condition that Til Schweiger's stepdaughter, who doesn't trust her stepfather one bit, goes along. Very funny situations, decent jokes, great pace and a very pleasant feeling carries throughout the film. I enjoyed and laughed a lot. 80%.

The Beach Bum (2019)

englanti I was expecting a bigger ride and trip, but still a cool movie full of familiar faces, weed and half naked women. Matthew McConaughey is completely natural in his role and occasionally slips in a fine line, but I was expecting a lot more humor and fun. Interesting, unconventional with a spiritual twist, but once was enough. 60%.

Men In Black International (2019)

englanti I’m unable understand how it's possible for the director of Law Abiding Citizen, Straight Outta Compton and Fast and Furious 8 can make such a sterile and uninteresting borefest. The film doesn't offer interesting visuals or action, the acting is alright, but Chris Hemsworth overacts quite a bit and the humor works rather infrequently. I really don't know what went wrong, but Men in Black: International comes across as second or third rate compared to what normally goes to the cinemas. 40%.

Anna (2019)

englanti Luc Besson serves up a great spy action thriller with a sex appeal-laden Sasha Luss. It's exactly the kind of gritty action flick that has been missing from cinemas for the last few years. The main character is having a hard time in life, in fact she's almost broke until she gets the opportunity to become a KGB government assassin with no competition. Cillian Murphy as the CIA chief and Luke Evans from the KGB are also great. The frequent time jumping is slightly confusing at first, but it gets proper meaning as the film progresses and there are surprisingly enough unexpected twists. There could have been more action, but when it comes down to it, you'll be sweating pretty hard. The five-minute restaurant scene in one take rivals John Wick, and cutting guys with a torn plate instead of a knife is an awesome idea! There are more than enough headshots and dead bodies. I had fun, just what I needed at the movies this summer. 80%

KL Special Force (2018)

englanti Malaysia copying Hong Kong in the style of John Woo, and it's quite successful. Visually it's okay, but nothing dazzling and the action is pretty decent, I'm just tired of the gunfights (I've grown out of that). Those who like shootouts will have fun, the rest won't miss anything. 55%

Akinjeon (2019)

englanti The Koreans are at it again, serving up a brilliant crime thriller! The film is inspired by true events from 2005 and I love the idea itself. A gangster played by Ma Dong-Seok (the guy has been pulling Korean movies up lately) is stabbed by a serial killer and is forced to team up with a detective to catch the evil killer. Two bad guys have to catch an even bigger bad guy and everything works. The film has a decent drive, charismatic characters (I enjoyed both the likeable cop and the cool sleazy killer), plenty of action and suspense, and an awesome cliffhanger finale at the courthouse that immediately begs for a prison sequel. Great visuals are a given and the Koreans notch up another solid serial killer flick. 80%.

Midsommar - loputon yö (2019)

englanti Ari Aster and Jordan Peele are the John Carpenter and David Cronenberg of the 21st Century without question! Midsommar is one of those controversial horror films that isn't very rewarding to viewers and will only please the more discerning and, above all, patient ones, who will, however, be solidly rewarded. The biggest downside is the slower pace (almost nothing interesting happens for the first hour), but from the first "ceremony" the film starts to get more and more interesting and above all disturbing. The whole mythology of the Swedish pagan community is interesting enough, novel and very unpredictable. A big plus is Florence Pugh, who gives a breathtaking performance (definitely the most talented young actress of our time), the music is also perfect, very unconventional for a horror film, but fits perfectly here. There is also very creative cinematography and the absolute biggest attraction is of course the gore, which Ari Aster serves up in such a shocking way that weaker viewers will prefer to give up and leave the film. The ending is typically symbolic and incredibly morbid (I've never seen anything weirder). Slow, creepy, disturbing, shocking, unorthodox and powerfully controversial is what Midsommar is. I liked Hereditary a bit more, but this is also a gem. PS: Those teens that go to the cinema cinema just because they see the horror genre and want to jump out of their seats, they must have been very surprised at what they actually got. 80%

Feedback (2019)

englanti Spanish debutant Pedro C. Alonso serves up a suspenseful thriller set in a radio studio where the main character (Eddie Marsan) is ambushed by two masked assailants who have come to confess about a night in the past. It's in English, which may be a shame, because Spanish always adds more flair to a film, but it's still decent fun and full of surprises, and there's a head smashed with a hammer and a pair of scissors stuck in a throat, and that never gets old. Definitely worth a watch. 65%

Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

englanti A solid sequel to Spider-Man that mines emotions to the max again in the opening thanks to Whitney Houston after the events of Endgame. The first hour is a bit more sedate and those who mind teenage humour might be bored, but once the action shifts to Prague and Jake Gyllenhaal's Mysterio steps in it's a brisk and fun ride with one unexpected twist and solid action (the highlight is definitely the duelling illusion, which is so visually imaginative and exciting it will take your breath away, because you've never seen anything like it before). The finale is traditionally big and pleasantly emotional, also thanks to the romance with Zendaya, who is becoming into a great actress. The post-credit scene was definitely great. I had a good time and the film is definitely worth seeing. 80%

Avengement (2019)

englanti I don't understand how it's possible that a guy who has made eleven bad movies, fucks up best cast action movie of all time and then makes gems like Accident Man and Avengement! Anyway, Scott Adkins is in fine form and stars in his best film in a while. A revenge, gangster and prison action flick all in one is a great combo. The fights are gritty, brutal and properly raw (the beat-up of the entire prison and the final pub fight are the best). I also enjoyed the wisecracks. Good stuff. A B-movie of a different kind! 80%
