Harmaapukuinen mies (1943)
I don't like costume dramas, or in this case, melodramas, because I find them pompous and simply boring, no matter how colorful the costumes are. With black and white cinematography, the colorfulness disappears, but it still doesn't resonate with me. However, when the actors perform brilliantly, they perform brilliantly, and I have always liked James Mason's acting. The ending of the film is absolutely fantastic.
Fires Were Started (1943)
War from someone else's perspective, not just soldiers, is also quite a good idea, but I couldn't really relate to it. If it were a true documentary, it would be something different, but in this case, it's simply a movie about firefighters from a difficult time, which didn't really interest me in any significant way.
Lukija (2008)
An incredibly strong and emotional film that doesn't just use the Second World War to be emotional, but brings forth a beautiful and sad story that stands on its own. Yes, the war is of course important here, but the story would hold up even in slightly different circumstances. A stellar performance by the main cast and director Daldry.
Deus Irae (2010)
The movie definitely deserves a higher rating for its masks and gore, but unfortunately, that's the only thing it impresses with. There is some attempt at humor or absurdity, but it doesn't really fit in. The effects are excellent, and that's enough. It's commendable that no one went for digital tricks. That is more than praiseworthy.
Alice Jacobs Is Dead (2009)
But yeah, this is still quite emotional, sensitive, but it's kind of expected and somewhat overused topic, especially when it comes to the zombie genre. The only novelty is the fact that the main characters are seniors, which adds a bit more sentiment to it, but otherwise it's still the same theme - how to cope with knowing that my loved one is dying. The movie is not significantly exceptional in this regard.
The Damned (2013)
According to what the film is about, I would expect some atmospheric spectacle, but unfortunately it did not happen. At times, the atmosphere is somewhat ruined by how the actors are directed and how the camera is guided. It feels like there is a lack of desire to shoot something truly horrifying, scary, and the creators simply settled for capturing scenes in the typical horror fashion. It's a shame because this film, especially this one, with its concept and storyline, deserves much more.
Suck me shakespeer (2013)
There are moments here that are almost out of place, that must be here just because it's expected, but that doesn't mean that I didn't laugh during this great German comedy. On the contrary, I laughed a lot and gladly. Great rough character who discovers something more within himself, but mainly an excellent school that wonderfully doesn't work so that something can change. Exactly the relaxing comedy that a person occasionally needs.
