Ilmestyskirjan Soturit (1978)

englanti War is always a good subject for a film if the creators have something to say, and it seems that's the case with the film The Boys in Company C because it's a movie that shows the war from the soldiers' perspective. It's not unnecessarily intense, it's not crazy in the vein of Apocalypse Now, but still, it's a strong statement about the madness of wartime chaos.

The Afterman (1985)

englanti The film is definitely interesting with its oddity, its bizarre approach to the post-apocalyptic world theme, where we follow a man who wakes up in a world that is somehow primitive. We observe a few characters who are mostly connected sexually. A bit rough, a bit eccentric, simply strange.

Teorie tygra (2016)

englanti One of the best Czech films I've seen in years, especially in the way it is presented. It's civilian, it's not about anything grand, it's simply about life, and it's not necessarily entertaining. But the actors, especially Jiří Bartoška, prove that small stories aren't insignificant, and mastery can be demonstrated even in them, both in acting and filmmaking.

Červený kapitán (2016)

englanti The scenes with Suchánek are good. The scenes with Kaiser are good. Overall, in hindsight, it really resembles some Nordic detective story with drive, but I can't help feeling that the story seemed somewhat strange to me, a big bubble for nothing, where the ending is weak, although the scene at the train stations was very well done. The details are good, but the whole is not so good.

Viulunsoittaja katolla (1971)

englanti A film that I know primarily from a few initially quite positive songs. I was wondering what could possibly be in it, given that it's even three hours long, but as it turned out, the length is completely justified, and it's interesting how the course of the film can change from quite positive, rural, to rather depressing. Great music and a powerful experience.

Underworld: Blood Wars (2016)

englanti The film Underworld: Blood Wars tries to get you excited about the action, but it's just boring. It's too full of special effects, too slow-motioned, and there isn't actually a single scene that would truly stick in your memory. Yes, it's very bloody in places, but that's just to get you out of the horrible boredom. It didn't work out so well for me. Underworld: Blood Wars is a big disappointment for me, and I hope that the hints of a sixth episode that were in the ending are not confirmed.

317. osasto (1965)

englanti The best thing about The 317th Platoon is the fact that it is essentially shot as a pseudo-documentary. This fact gives it an unpleasant vividness and rawness, manifesting in a way that you truly feel nothing is staged. There are scenes that can pull you in, and you fear you might catch a bullet too.

Idila (2015)

englanti Killbillies may be very sub-par in its plot, but I like the way this redneck horror film is made. It's bloody, it's gruesome, it has quite good masks - it just can't zoom in too much - and it caters to the audience, leading to an ending that, in my opinion, somewhat kills the film, but not enough to make me dislike it. At least the setting is European, as otherwise, the film is very American.

Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)

englanti Ouija: Origin of Evil isn't a great film, but when it comes to movies featuring the Ouija board as the main focus, it's indeed one of the best. Plot-wise, it's a bit too clichéd, and considering that this is an "origin" film, it's quite clear how it will likely end, so there is a need for an open ending. But it's not entirely bad, and there are quite unpleasant scenes in it. A light above-average horror, worth going to the movie theater for.

Schulmädchen-Report 3: Was Eltern nicht mal ahnen (1972)

englanti A light guide for lustful youth, showing how desire can also take a dark turn, but essentially only in one scene. Otherwise, it's restrained and rather comic, though not in the sense of hilarious entertainment. Just a bit of nudity, where you wonder if some of the performers are of the age of consent.
