Ulveczky, the fierce, unrestrainable farmer, is the difficult man of the village. He sets his eyes on Zsuzsi, old Monoki's daughter, and gets her at once. The girl becomes his lover, enchanted by his passionate temperament. The brute, however, sends her away as soon as he gets bored of her. Zsuzsi soon marries her childhood acquaitance, Gál Jani, who has been in love with her for a long time. Their marriage is peaceful, they have a son. Years pass. Ulveczki enters the co-operative and meets Zsuzsi again. Now his attempts are in vain, she refuses him, telling everything to her husband. Ulveczki makes a scandal at the ball and Jani has to put him right. The next day the row continues at the co-operative. The brute goes to visit Zsuzsi, Jani follows him.
