Pražská 5

An average episodic movie with five tales which, thanks to the two tales “The Way to Karlštejn" and “Volunteer Work", has a place in my heart for ever. My memory of the other tales is more cloudy, but I will probably never forget the opening “purely Czech" slapstick story and the closing parody on the (over) eager movies of the nineteen fifties about building a beautiful new (Communist) world. Even the more mediocre tales are saved by the excellent Sklep Comedy Theatre Group and some of their performances are simply abnormal(ly funny). In the dull grayness of the time (still during Communism) this was a ground-breaking phenomenon. (13.04.2005)
