Prince makes his acting debut in this rock musical. He stars as The Kid, an ambitious and talented young musician from a harsh, poverty-stricken background struggling to win love and musical recognition in Minneapolis. In search of success, he spends his nights performing at the First Avenue Nightclub with his band, The Revolution. When he meets fellow aspiring singer Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), he is completely smitten - but when he replicates the abusive behaviour of his father (Clarence Williams III), he looks set to lose her forever. Can he win her back from his arch enemy, Morris (Morris Day), who fronts rival group The Time and will he ever find the success he craves? (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment)

englanti It’s good that Prince didn’t overdo it with movies and stuck with music. The song Purple Rain is good, but the eponymous movie is a total crazy trip. More than a film it looks like a mix of shots from his concerts, which alone wouldn’t be so bad. But the plot is some hardcore wackiness, which must have been a joke; I can’t imagine the creators were serious about this. Prince with his mustache and bike didn’t look exactly like the toughest guy under the Sun. He, however, succeeded in bewitching me with the love of his life. And I don’t mean Apollonia but music. ()

englanti This film is basically about nothing and it doesn't make much sense to dwell too much on the story, because not much happens here. Nothing that is truly unique. The plot is quite simple. However, this film has Prince, both in terms of acting and music. If a person just listened to the film, they would have a much better experience. The music is fantastic. ()
