From his origins in Livorno, home of the ‘Macchiaioli’, to the Paris of Picasso and Brancusi that became the centre of modernity, to his love for Jeanne Hébuterne, the movie uncovers stunning work of the avant-garde artist who became a contemporary classic - his life and art lived to the last breath. englanti A virtually ideal way of bringing Modigliani's character and work to a contemporary audience. It's as if the documentary is obsessed with not coming across as academic. As a result, on one hand it contains almost all documentary forms, yet on the other hand it also includes those that I find intolerable (staged situations, monumental music to guide us to the greatness of the work, monologues of the dead), to which it adds one new to me, namely the comparison of life in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century with Paris today, where the same types of Bohemian artists keep coming back and keep its spirit alive. The idea that the contemporary Picasso is a skateboarder on Montparnasse actually seems pretty good to me, but I think I'd like to see it treated separately rather than illustrated in this way. On the other hand, the ending, which is devoted not to an appreciation of the artist's work but to the suicide of his last wife, is gratifying. ()
