The film tells the story of the largest temperate Rainforest of the Northern hemisphere, a huge Western Canadian area vital to the earth's balance at a time of climate change, and of the people there, their lives and their strategies to protect it. The Canadian Northern Pacific Coast, a beautiful archipelago called the Great Bear Rainforest , can only be visited by boat. The film crew boards the schooner "Maple Leaf" into an endangered paradise. After severe logging policies, oil became the major threat, as international companies proposed a pipeline and tanker route through the area. The film offers fantastic encounters with wildlife in sea and forests and intense meetings with the people trying to protect them: The German whale researcher Hermann, the young First Nations elder Douglas, coastal bear specialist Christina from the University of Victoria and others show their innovative and unobtrusive projects . The cruise itself becomes a strategy for protection , as the film offers an intense journey to deep truths of our time behind one of the earth's last wilderness, and extraordinary meetings with strong people and successful strategies in the larger fight against global warming.
