Marianne

I’ve never made it a secret that I wasn’t particularly fond of French films and series, but sometimes even French filmmakers shine so brightly that I have to give them credit, which was exactly the case of Marianne. I enjoyed the grim, oppressive atmosphere, decent suspense and well-written story. I really didn't expect a horror series (let alone a French one) to be so entertaining. I was expecting something borderline retarded, of which there are so many examples everywhere these days. I was greatly satisfied. (08.11.2019)

The first episode of the series pleasantly surprised me. I don't expect much from today's horror shows, as creators usually rely on a series of cheap jump scares and the result reflects that, but here there was a change. Instead of silly jump scares, the French focused on building a tense atmosphere, and if I may speak for myself, they succeeded. (06.11.2019)

After a high-quality first episode, I was hoping that the story would escalate with each subsequent episode, but I was somewhat disappointed. Surely, the reunion of the former group after years will probably be important for the story (hints have already appeared), but the dark and oppressive atmosphere that captivated me in the previous episode disappeared somewhere. The initial episode is clearly leading for me so far, but I welcomed the return to the original unsettling atmosphere, the plot that somewhat stagnated in the previous episode has been set in motion again, and I enjoyed this part much more. Excellent, the creators have directed the series exactly in the direction I was hoping for, and the fourth episode was already comparable to the successful introduction. I am enjoying the story so far, the atmosphere is well done once again, and the occasional use of humor, which contrasts nicely with the gloomy plot, also works for me. (06.11.2019)

After a long time, I can once again enjoy a great horror atmosphere, so I am not sparing any stars. This journey against the flow of time to the beginning of the story has entertained me a lot. Every time the tension subsided, I didn't have to feel sorry because in return, I learned something interesting and essential for the story. (07.11.2019)

French creators clearly know how to play with the story, in one episode they present a spiritist séance from the past, only to serve me the same situation from the present in the next episode. Well, they did it again, the plot was interesting and the atmosphere was excellent. (08.11.2019)

I was somewhat disappointed with the episode of Marianne for the first time. That great tense atmosphere that I constantly praise here has somewhat disappeared and the plot reminded me of typical, American, weak pseudo horrors with a group of students. There was a lot of running and yelling, but there was nothing extra hidden in it. (08.11.2019)

The final episode was not bad at all, but the creators have already shown me that they can do better. Despite some minor reservations, I was satisfied with the final piece and once again it was confirmed to me that priests, apart from little boys, also have a great fondness for fire.
