Islander

In 1877, a young aristocrat from Bern, Alfred von Rodt, settles on a small Chilean island with a few men. For twenty-eight years von Rodt multiplies his projects in hopes of developing the resources of his piece of rock. Vanquished by storms and abandoned by his wealthy family, he fails constantly but rebounds all the same. Insulaire is the story of this black sheep who decided to break with tradition but also the depiction of the everyday life of his descendants, who are paradoxically proud of their Helvetic ancestry.
