Gauguin

In his earlier film, Van Gogh, Resnais attempted a new way of creating artist portraits. He let them comment on themselves through their own statements or lives. Using this principle, he evokes the life of Gaugain through his canvases. His goal is to achieve an effect similar to that when a life drama unfolds before the viewers, the details of which we discover vicariously. (Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival)
