Unlike in his earlier socially critical films, in this mythical story of a great love Mohsen Makhmalbaf immersed himself in the tradition of Persian poetry, storytelling and carpet weaving. Based on them he created a stunning visual poem full of heady, colourful scenes celebrating the Iranian landscape. (Summer Film School)

One of those films where you realize how it is also possible to play with the image and create something absolutely unique. The connection between movement and scene here is so captivating that you will be surprised how little you have seen something like that in a film. Iranian films from the 90s are definitely worth further exploration.
