Criminal lovebirds Jules (Maika Monroe) and Mickey (Bill Skarsgård) were subsidizing their road trip to Florida with petty theft when they ran out of gas, and broke into the first available house looking for cash. They'd find a young girl (Blake Baumgartner) chained in the basement-and themselves now subject to the suspect hospitality of stuck-in-the-'70s, sociopath homeowners Gloria (Kyra Sedgwick) and George (Jeffrey Donovan), in this acclaimed, blackly comic thriller. englanti Well cast, but with the wrong kind of directing for a satire. The duo of villains is rather more laughable than menacing, and if that was the intention, it doesn’t add anything to the film, but hinders it instead. The balance of suspense and dark humor is generally uneven. However, the romantic “car wash” with Maiki Monroe’s hair is unforgettable; I’m already practicing it at home. ()

englanti Watching Pigeon and Horsie rob the gas station while forgetting one very crucial detail, I was left scratching my head. Yet, gradually, the brain trust of Mickey and Jules grew on me until it finally clicked. I'm not entirely sure where the Drama and Thriller genres fit into this story, as it felt more like an offbeat comedy that could have used a bit more polish from the creators. The duo of villains was oddly amusing, the logic had its holes, yet it kept me entertained. And let's talk about the dynamic between the main characters — enviable, to say the least. The way they could suppress negative emotions towards each other... that's a skill I wish I had, too. / Lesson learned: Retirement in Florida must be every true American's dream. 3*- ()

englanti A nice little festival thriller with the lovely Maika Monroe and the likeable Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise!). A couple of amateur thieves break into a house where two strange psychos happen to live, and getting away won't be easy. What we have here is a home invasion turned inside out, and it's rather a shame that the director didn't dare to step out of the standard. It's nicely shot, occasionally suspenseful, well acted and a couple of times pleasantly funny, but it could have done with some spicing up on both the violence and the atmosphere. In the end, just an inoffensive one-off that could have been a successor to Funny Games, but won't. 6/10. ()
