Little Monsters

In anticipation of undemanding infantile junk, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how funny this vulgar and gory comedy horror I got in the end was. Jokes with a knowing nod and a wink, well-written characters with cleverly humorously delivered lines played by quality actors (even the children do well here), zombies attacking a children's zoo (maybe animal lovers will find a small downside there) and legitimate gory practical effects (although it is a movie about children, it is definitely not for children). Little Monsters is definitely a very well-made representative of the over-crowded zombie comedy genre, because the quality and originality makes it stand out from the rest. A fun zombie comedy with kids, starring the perfect Lupita Nyong'o (Us), who is definitely becoming the new horror Scream Queen! A teacher goes on a field trip with her kids and is helped out by David, who has his nephew in kindergarten, but instead of a nice trip, they find themselves in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and are forced to fight for their lives. The film is quite original in that it features a group of children, which gives it a fairly decent emotional base and makes it unexpectedly cute in places, but there are a few severed heads, a bit of blood and the humour works well. So an enjoyable flick that brought something new to the zombie genre, but I was expecting it to be a bit wilder, still a cautious thumbs up. 65%. (12.10.2019)

The British-Australian movie Little Monsters is a good example of a horror movie that appeals to a mainstream audience. Little Monsters is more of a comedy, even though there are still some pretty intense scenes. The characters are easy to like, especially Miss Caroline, and of course, the storyline avoids children having to die, so what more could you want? (29.05.2020)
