Juonikuvaukset(1)

(Walt Disney Nordic Fin.)

englanti Pixar the way I like it. At the same time imaginative, funny, more grown-up than the other competition, and smart and touching. From the beginning, I was under the impression that I was watching an exceptional animated film, and in the end my impression was confirmed to me. Most feature films can only dream about such impressiveness, because the story of elf teenagers is really trending. ()

englanti A nicely executed fairy tale from an attractive fantasy magical world where the humour works, the characters are entertaining and the action is engaging. Especially the car chase is very well done. Again, it's Pixar quality, but you won't fall on your ass for it. englanti Pixar quality that brings a charming world, likeable heroes and an emotional story with a very effective and strong finale. Maybe it’s clear from the beginning what path it will take and what moral it’ll finish with, but does anybody really mind? A sharp road movie on a shabby van, with relentless pace, plenty of interesting ideas and excellent voice acting (Pratt has a lot of fun) about growing up and putting priorities in order, set in a slightly different and magical world. Those magical motifs show, perhaps for the first time, a strong Disney touch, and it’s not bad at all. 80% ()

englanti It’s not “it”. Onward has the classic Pixar combination of humour, suspense, emotion and life truths delivered artfully and without pathos, but this time it's as if the studio didn't enjoy inventing the world. And yet, modern fantasy literally begged for someone to have a good go at it, like in Monsters Inc. We do get a few references to Dungeons and Dragons, but overall the new world is a lot less playful, witty and fun than what we're used to with Pixar. At the same time, it's just begging for the creators to have a go at it. If I'm going a little overboard, by the end of the film I had to make do with unicorns that act like rats. Everything else works as we're used to with Pixar, but that the studio would be lacking in audio-visual games and small jokes is something I didn't quite expect. ()

englanti During the time I was reading different articles and discussions about modified Oscar terms I played this animated movie Onward to rest a bit from all this gender inequality. But the modern approach to a fairy tale about modern elves living in our world didn’t interest me. Moreover I was slightly shocked by the lesbian police woman and black scorpion like monster combined with bear. The Oscars are opening the issue of transgender now but Pixar already focused on it in the beginning of 2020. In the end we get a good fairy tale that has almost 80% rating at this site so who really cares? ()
