In England, the Italian English hairdresser Milo Tindle is invited by the successful writer of detective stories Andrew Wyke to visit his isolated house. The lower class Milo is the lover of Andrew's wife, who is used to have a comfortable life, and he intends to marry her. Andrew proposes Milo to steal his jewelry simulating a burglary. Milo would make a fortune selling the jewels to an intermediary; and Andrew would be reimbursed by the insurance company and would not pay alimony. However, the whole situation was part of an evil game. When Milo vanishes, a detective visits Andrew to investigate what really happened that night, when deadly games are disclosed. englanti This is simply a concert of two great actors. I must say that I missed a faster pace here, which I felt in the remake of this film, where Michael Caine played the older man for a change. Laurence Olivier shows his mastery, but Caine is a great counterpart to him until the "successful" end. If you like conversational dramas, this will suit you because there is minimal action. ()

englanti A film built on a seemingly simple plot made memorable and riveting by the two Actors (yes, the capital A is there on purpose). It was strange to watch how during the film my sympathies moved from one gentleman to another, then back again and a few more times around, so that in the end I didn't know who I was cheering for: Okay, it's a tie, you were both great. englanti Sleuth cannot hide its theatrical roots because it is a matter of two players with a lot of dialogue and the setting of a magnificent noble residence. It is a sophisticated game of cat and mouse, enjoyed especially by fans of classical detective stories. The encounter between the two men initially carries the spirit of pretended friendship, but false tones gradually penetrate, and the viewer feels that trouble is brewing. The question is who will be the winner in this strategic game on several levels. The plot has several surprising twists and until the last moment, the viewer remains in suspense, although an experienced fan can guess where this game is heading. It is a film based on the principle of a game, where one of the two opponents is directly obsessed with a player's passion that goes beyond what is normally tolerated. At the same time, it is a film about the rivalry of social classes, where a member of the old aristocratic elite feels threatened by an ambitious nobody from the middle class. This crime thriller has more of a light-hearted spirit and occasionally slips into a parody of classic British detective stories. It is excellently cast, acted, and set in a perfectly functioning environment with plenty of props typical of a classic detective story. Overall impression: 90%. ()
