englantiIt takes years to build an F1 team, but you can kill it in six months.” A look behind the scenes of the preseason activities of an F1 team during the winter break; i.e. the work of mechanics, designers, engineers, drivers, marketers, (most) senior management, etc., at a time when a declining motorsport legend like Ron Dennis is leaving (for the second time) and new investors are stepping in with ambitious plans to restore the lost lustre of the McLaren brand. Most importantly, it is a docuseries that may have originally been intended to show the organization in a better light after the new ownership structure took over, but inadvertently burned through why there was a decline and retreat from decades of success after the 2012 season. It starts off sunny (new start, new car, new driver, new vision), then the frictions begin to show, with deadlines that are not met, the disagreements with Honda, the frustrated Alonso, the disillusioned Vandoorne, and ends with a shameful fiasco during the Barcelona test week, which resulted in arguably McLaren's worst season ever (which is no longer the subject of the series, sadly), but showed the problems that were subsequently addressed season after season (it's a shame that there were no further series after 2018). If you are not into F1, this is more for the connoisseurs who are not satisfied with watching the highlights of the some Grand Prix or another. After all, watching a few dozen people anxiously seeing if a bunch of assemblers from Japan will manage to get the engine up and running through a software update is a very specific thing. Of course, there are also more rewarding things for the average viewer, such as the physical and PR preparations of an F1 rookie, etc. In any case, this is mostly about the normally hidden behind the scenes of an F1 team HQ and not about the pilots, the races, etc. ()
