It’s obviously not as good as any version with Brigitte Helm, but since this second audio version has become a peculiar work in its own right, I can fully accept it. In the early days of her career, Hildegard Knef was one of the few bearers of the good old star approach, where her careful selection of roles also determined her status among quality artists.
