The original series Mr. Mercedes' third season starts when beloved local author John Rothstein is found murdered. Hodges, Holly and Jerome, along with local police, must track down his killer, but this case is more complex than the cold-blooded killing of an American icon. Season 3 was definitely a nice surprise. After suffering through the sterile second season, the plot finally began to move forward, the creators stopped being afraid to show the audience some blood, stopped producing filler episodes and the pace of the story picked up. Sure, it wasn't as good as the first season, but it wasn't mind-numbingly boring and a waste of time like the second one.
