Ingrid Goes West

I couldn't get used to the transformation of Aubrey Plaza, who up until now has played a sexy bitch and here she plays an ugly weirdo who is also a psychopath addicted to Instagram. Elizabeth Olsen is again an unusually haughty lady, which also didn't sit well with me. The only funny thing here is O'Shea Jackson with his obsession with Batman, which was great, and Billy Magnussen was a good asshole. A strange film. 60%. (25.10.2017)

One of a handful of low-key indie films with a faithful reflection on society that doesn’t need any extravagant ways of expression or flashy calls for attention. The simple premise works thanks to the convincing actors, the director’s balance and the absence of any wannabe cool shocking twists; Matt Spicer shows a real world populated by human beings that create their images and their characters on the basis of the Instagram community, leaving the viewer to their own interpretations. The final message supports the unstable heroine, but also points out to the impossibility of her mental freedom, something the entire film speaks loudly about. And that we can see the beautiful Elizabeth and a funny O’Shea Jackson with a Batman kink, that’s the cherry on top. If the last act had gone deeper, I wouldn’t have anything to complain about. The acting is good, but I can't help the fact that I just didn't enjoy it. Aubrey handles her role well, and Elizabeth is beautiful, but I didn't care for their story, probably because I don't like the story of characters that there is really little to like about. Then there’s the fact that it's presented as a comedy. If it weren't for O'Shea Jackson Jr. even this couldn't be labeled as a comedy. (25.01.2018)
