englanti For James Ivory, The Golden Bowl represented a return to Henry James novels. In the past, he adapted the iconic The Europeans and The Bostonians. The original novel "The Golden Bowl" (1904) is the author's ultimate psychological novel, and so there are no issues with its comprehensibility. James' usual formula of "an American damsel in distress revels in Renaissance Italian palaces and experiences moral torment" is there, and thus there is also plenty of time for great work with the actors and a parade of gorgeous Art Nouveau costumes. It’s true, Uma Thurman has never been more attractive. ()
