A Possible Life

Taking her son Valerio with her, Anna runs from her abusive husband and hides at her long-time friend Carla's home. Theater actress Carla is unceremonious and liberal, and though not rich, warmly welcomes her friend in peril. Anna and Valerio try to adapt to their new life, but there is much they can't understand and they encounter many difficulties. Carla and Mathieu, a French restauranteur who lives in the neighborhood, give them the courage to begin a new life.

World-class Italian actresses Margherita Buy and Valeria Golino star in this film about domestic violence. Cases of women badly injured or killed by their husbands do not often come to light. This does not mean that the issue of domestic violence is getting better or has gone away, in Italy or anywhere else. However, except for the shocking opening scene, this film is not focused on the violence itself, but rather on new beginnings. It emphasizes a mother and son finding a "possible life" among the warm support of their friends. It's the latest feature by Ivano De Matteo, who visited Busan in the past with The Dinner.
