Inspired by the everlasting emotions expressed in Japanese Bunraku doll theatre, Dolls weaves three stories delicately intertwined by the beauty of sadness. Bound by a long red cord, a young couple wanders in search of something they have tragically forgotten. An aging yakuza mysteriously returns to the park where he used to meet his long-past girlfriend. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)

englanti Either I didn't really get it, or it was too slow and stilted, saying nothing, yet with beautiful images of nature. Or maybe I just can't tune into my lyrical dark side today. Some of the shots are downright mesmerizing, some scenes can make you smile, others leave you feeling empty, maybe even hopeless. What really spoiled the "view" quite a bit for me was with the second story, when, already a proper yakuza, he walked into the park and heard the two young men talking. [SPOILER] The fact that she goes there every Saturday is palatable, it's still sort of believable, but the fact that two young men are talking about her at that very moment, and the old man nearby overhears it, and thus it becomes clear to him who the lady with the two lunches is, is just utter and unforgivable nonsense to me. I don't know why it made me so angry, but it did. [END SPOILER] To sum up: a tragedy that didn't bring tears to my eyes, let alone sympathy, yet still captivated me with its beautiful images. Maybe beautiful images aren’t enough to fill for 109 minutes. But let someone else judge that, I give it a better 3 stars. ()
