The time is just after the end of the Civil War. Wayne is Union Colonel Cord McNally, who is teamed with two Confederate soldiers he captured during the war in order to take down a thieving bootlegger. Excellent film from the older Wayne era, when he didn't make as many movies per year. It didn't matter at all because you can really see in every film from the 70s how much Duke enjoyed filming. Occasionally, he even took on some intense scenes like in this film, but most importantly, it's just a great movie that I really like.
