englanti The parallel with Germany in autumn is indeed offered, but the final product is fortunately not that rigid. The games with polyphony really made me almost enjoy Rainer Werner Fassbinder, although the content was again on the edge and the ensemble was also exhausted. And, of course, the naive belief that good coitus can cure narcotic addiction has not been confirmed. ()

englanti This is an interesting and provocative rather than a very high-quality balanced film. The political views of the director are strongly reflected in the form of The Third Generation. The topic of the political terrorism of RAF clearly fascinated Rainer Werner Fassbinder and is the subject of several of his films. With the exception of the semi-documentary Germany in Autumn, The Third Generation is probably Fassbinder's biggest attempt to come to terms with this phenomenon. He referred to a big problem when he could not describe and evaluate the political roots of RAF terrorism properly because they obviously belonged to the same ideological direction that shaped Fassbinder's platform of opinions. The director does not analyze the real terrorist organization that was operating in Germany at that time, but rather his terrorists are the romanticizing petty bourgeois individuals who turn to terrorism out of boredom and see it as a distraction from the consumerist life that surrounds them. The revealing ending, that police provocations are behind the terrorist activities of the group, is typical for Fassbinder. The theme of conspiracy of the power elite and state repressive forces is characteristic of him. The film contains some absurd scenes and a few truly funny moments, such as a house search of one of the suspects, who has a mental breakdown during the police visit and has an amazing neurotic fit full of mumblings. However, this does not change the fact that it is a rather uneven film whose basic outline is a conspiracy theory that I do not identify with. Overall impression: 45%. In terms of acting, the most remarkable performance comes from the well-known German star Hanna Schygulla. ()
