A large sum of money is stolen from the safe of a company and it is Köhler, who falls under suspicion. In order to clear him of the accusations, Vanda, his fiancée, decides to take the blame for the act. Bornemann, the real culprit, is happy to learn that Vanda has been sentenced for one year. Köhler, disappointed at his fiancée's behaviour, does not even visit her while she is in prison where she is suffering, having to serve a sentence she does not deserve. Both Köhler and Vanda think that the other is guilty of the theft. It is only after Vanda's release that the truth comes to light, when Bornemann starts spending the wanted bank notes.
