Sr. Ávila

Sr. Ávila is an ideal choice for those who want it served in a fun and cool way. And for those who no longer care so much about being anchored in reality. A hired killer with a police past is the best assassin in the funeral home owner's team, who cleverly expanded his business to ensure a steady flow of clients. Señor Ávila is the most meticulous in following the rules set by his manager, so it's no wonder that the boss chose him as his successor. Señor Ávila doesn't even realize it and becomes the leader of a team that follows the remarkable motto "Killing to live better." However, the series is characterized by the aestheticization of violence, where if the camera can stay on a brutal detail, it reliably does so. Blood is even redder than in reality and there is certainly no shortage of morbid shots. At the same time, it is true that whenever the screenwriter can choose an effective shortcut, he never hesitates to do so. The logic of the functioning of the surrounding world and the covering of tracks are not often pondered by the series characters, and you will often get the feeling that the characters obtain a lot of important information somewhere off-camera. Fortunately, the black humor, such as the candidates' parade for the Darwin Award on the premises of the funeral home, works, and it is impossible to deny the quality craftsmanship and decent cast of the series. However, the different rules, rituals, and codes on which the premise is based never worked for me. I have always been a supporter of practicality and efficiency over the ritualized world of peculiar operation of a company removing troubles and troublemakers. In addition, the cool style chosen by the creative team really doesn't resonate with me. I realize that with each new episode, my interest in the artificial world where characters have peculiar mental processes and dedicate too much energy to following nonsensical codes fabricated by the screenwriter decreases. After ten episodes, I conclude that the series deserves only two stars and an overall impression of 45%. (15.05.2019)
