No Lands Song

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, an incredible number of prohibitions and commands were instituted in Iranian society. The life to which people were accustomed was changed beyond recognition. One of the most absurd regulations is the ban on female solo singing in public. Composer Sara Najafi decides to break the rule and test the strength of Iranian censorship. She and several Iranian singers join a group of Franco-Tunisian musicians and begin to plan a joint performance in Tehran. Meanwhile Sara must battle with the authorities, who constantly prohibit the concert. Can music win over repression? This film about desire and commitment is full of captivating music. (One World)
