Sisarukset Abby ja Rebecca eivät ole nähneet toisiaan sittenlapsuuden. Siskokset lähtevät nyt matkalle sirottaakseen äitinsä tuhkatsyrjäiseen järveen ja tutustuakseen toisiinsa uudestaan.Jotain kuitenkin odottaa heitä metsissä, eikä tätä salaperäistä esinettäole tehnyt ihminen. Samalla Abbya piinaavat painajaiset avaruusolioistaalkavat tuntua todellisemmilta kuin koskaan. Sisarusten jälleennäkeminenmuuttuu nopeasti kahden naisen taisteluksi jotain paljon suurempaavastaan. This was a pleasant surprise. From the poster I was expecting a silly B-movie, but in the end it was a pretty solid and unsettling film, and I particularly liked their attempt to take on the alien abduction theme with a serious face. There have been quite a few horror movies with UFOs in recent years and this one is among the best of the lot – for instance, this year’s Extraterrestrial wasn’t good at all, it was bullshit for kids. This film, in contrast, tries to build things on the characters, there is some inner drama in there. The performances are a bit weak, though, but I’m still satisfied enough for a strong three stars.

The intimate setting of the film The Device suits it quite well because it manages to build up the plot and gradually intensify the atmosphere even more. It really only took three actors and one black ball to do it. Together, they managed to create not necessarily a highly intense experience, but a relatively good horror drama with a sci-fi element, which is primarily there to make the atmosphere uncertain. This was successful and quite a lot was extracted from the small potential.
