Rossz orvos, A

The heroes of the story, which takes place at the turn of the century, are (no longer so) young, middle class people who married for love. Their emotions are gradually cooled by habit. As they begin looking for excitement outside the home, the attention devoted to their only child wears off. When the young boy falls ill, his parents, in a hurried, hysterical mood, call for an irresponsible, bad doctor who maltreats his patient. Istvánka dies. The woman escapes into a new marriage, the man into cards and amorous adventures, but neither of them finds true relief. Eventually, they unite again and realise that they lost their only child because they did not love each other enough. There is no redemption for their destroyed lives. (jakelijan virallinen teksti)
