Ivanov

Adaptation of the famous play by A.P. Tchekhov. The action takes place in one of the districts in the midland of Russia in the beginning of the 19th Century. Nikolay Alekseevich Ivanov experiences a strange life crisis. He feels an emptiness and inanition of his life, and even his wife Anna Petrovna, who has refused her faith and family for him five years ago and still is deeply in love with him, doesn't seem to understand him. Doctor Lvov, who is treating Anna suffering from consumption, disapproves of Ivanov, telling him he must care more for his wife, but the hero confesses that he doesn't feel love for her anymore. Neither does Ivanov find comfort in true love of the young Sashenka, daughter of the neighbor landowner. (Moscow International Film Festival)
