Following a botched job interview, Lulu decides not to return home, leaving her husband and their three children in the lurch. She premeditated nothing; it all happened quite simply. She steals a few days of freedom for herself, alone, on the coast with no other purpose in mind than to take full advantage of the moment, without feeling guilty about it. On the way, she crosses paths with a variety of people who, like herself, are at the edge of the world: a strange guy protected by his brothers; an old woman who is bored to death; a female employee hassled by her female boss... A nicely told but melancholy story from France, which caught my interest mainly because of the unfamiliar (at least for me) actors in the leading roles, but also with its characters that are incredibly likeable. Also because Lulu makes a few mistakes brought on by despair, because that’s what happens in real life. Another message of this movie is the fact that you must sometimes leave your stereotypical daily routine, which is anything but ideal, for something completely unnatural, unusual and special. Lulu’s meeting with the grandma might be unusual, but on the other hand I don’t think it’s unrealistic. Together with Lulu, this human element made me very happy with this film.
