Set in 1970s. In a small Danish town, 14-year-old Martin is getting ready to mark the transition from boy to man with his confirmation. But his beloved mother suddenly passes away and her tragic death triggers a series of unexpected events. In a quirky, small town, situated in the outskirts of everything, 14-year-old Martin is getting ready for one of the most formal transitions from boy to man; the communion. It's 1976, music's in the air and hormones are blossoming. But in the midst of it all Martin's mother suddenly passes away and her tragic death triggers a series of events that not only changes Martin's life forever, but also affects everyone else in the local community. An intense, humorous and evocative story about how life and death demands a transition in us all. (Cinemax)

englanti In this movie, it’s not only the adults who are creeps, the children are as well. And Niels Oplev is trying to tell the story of this in-between-world between reality and the inconspicuous Danish small town without going crazy. I really had to shake my head at some of the sexual opinions. For instance, when the dad was explaining to his son that even though his mom had died he still needs to get laid every once in a while. And at that point, the boy had had so much experience that the dad would be amazed. Speed Walking is pretty weird, incredibly personal and some scenes could easily have been skipped. Other than that, however, I can’t say I didn’t find the ending interesting. If it wasn’t for some moments in the story, it would be a pretty solid and depressing Scandinavian movie with a positive side. On the other hand, this film was at times pretty shocking and thus it confirmed what the Scandinavians are good at. ()
