Afghanistan, 2006, the British Army is deployed in Helmand province. As the scale of the Taliban insurgency dawns on an isolated patrol, problems with their operation cause the soldiers to question their role in the war. THE PATROL takes a piercing look at the conflict in Afghanistan through the eyes of a British Army patrol who, alongside the Afghan Army, are fighting the Taliban, an invisible, deadly enemy. When a Special Forces Operation prompts a Taliban counter attack in Helmand Province the unit's three day patrol hits double figures. I must say that I was quite surprised that for a relatively small amount of money, a fairly satisfying war drama could be made. It's nothing grand, but there are ideas here that try to look at war in different ways, certainly not positively. The relationships between the characters only amplify that. War is senseless, but equally inevitable.
