16 year old Mei Tachibana has never had a friend, much less a boyfriend. One day Mei accidently hurts Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular boy at school. Yamato is immediately attracted to Mei and soon declares that he wants to be her friend. Later, to save Mei from an embarrassing situation, he roundly kisses her. For Mei, these experiences are all firsts, made so much sweeter by Yamato who loves her with a touching sincerity and gentleness. Mei’s world begins to fill with bright colors. Her first friend, her first lover and her first encounter with jealous rivals. Mei is on a roller-coaster of joy, distress and hurt, as she struggles to learn the art of loving and of being loved. I debated for a long time whether to rate the film with two stars or one. In the end I realized it was weaker than the anime, so I decided there was no point in rating it the same. Even though the story is the same, it's delivered worse, and the dialogue is very weak, almost embarrassing I would say. The acting... well, it's a school romance after all, so you can't expect miracles, but at times it was never even average. Probably the worst movie of its type I've seen. Such a pity.
