Kirjallisuutta ja etenkin Gustave Flaubertin teoksia rakastava leipuri Martin asuu pienessä kylässä Ranskan Normandiassa. Eräänä päivänä hänen naapureikseen muuttaa englantilainen pariskunta, joihin Martin haluaa heti tutustua paremmin. Romantically sunny La Provence can never be all bad. The female version of A Good Year, but less comedic, and following the book, tries to be more dramatic and judgmental, although it only manages to grasp the spirit of it just before the end. Both additions, however, are equally charming and vibrant with the pure vitality of the French countryside. Superb cinematography and editing, an even better Gemma Arterton, for whom this was tailor-made and certainly not just because of the coincidence of her first name.
