La Sirga

The debut of the Colombian director, William Vega, tells a story of young Alicia whose parents were killed by government soldiers. Alicia seeks refuge at her uncle's guest house, in a remote part of the Andes. Oscar is at first standoffish, but he gets used to his niece very soon. With a maid named Flora, they start repairing the shabby tavern where they live, hoping to accommodate tourists there. Nevertheless, the civil war slowly creeps into the more distant parts of the country. The winner of the Bratislava International Film Festival depicts the intact landscape inhabited mostly by the natives, and the subtle anxiety from the nearing conflict. (Febiofest)
