I Swim Now

Violet Jessop was a stewardess and one of two people to serve on board of all three sister ships of the White Star Line. She survived the collision of the Olympic (1911), the sinking of the Titanic (1912), and the downing of the Britannic (1916). All three stories of these grand ships end in them breaking up, as does the image, which crumbles in its search for fragments of concreteness, succumbing to disintegration, and disappearing but nevertheless telling of survival.
