In an abandoned cabin on the edge of an Indian reservation, Mike (Peter Cilella) stages a risky intervention to force his friend Chris (Vinny Curran) off meth and into rehab. But what begins as an attempt to save his friend's life takes an unexpected turn when ominous threats start appearing around the house – and they realize that Chris's addictions are the least of their worries. One of the most talked-about discoveries of last year's festival circuit, Resolution is genre-bending horror at its most bone-chilling. (Tribeca Film)

englanti Cabin in the Woods meets Sinister meets the new Evil Dead. This web of sources of inspiration, or rather, the parallel elaboration of the same old motifs, is already interesting in itself. And while the above mentioned films are for me the peak of current mainstream horror, this one is actually a cheap indie but a perfect one at that, with a small (but sufficient) budget supporting a very original story. I was wondering all the time what kind of supernatural (or natural?) phenomenon the protagonists have the honour of facing. The climax is quite innovative in its own way (also going beyond “the format”). It’s hard to describe, but give it a chance and maybe you’ll be satisfied. The atmosphere was pretty chilling and unpleasant, even during those moments when nothing objectively scary is happening (it was enough to see a weird guy in a caravan flipping a mirror plaque between his fingers). A must-see for fans of American indie horror. PS: If you’re still not sure whether to watch it, maybe Absentia will help you. If you like that one, you’ll like Resolution, too. It is also slow-burn and an alternative take on the horror genre. ()
